Data Requests

Overview

The ANZORRG Registries welcome requests for access to data for research, quality improvement initiatives, policy development, and other  purposes that contribute to advancing knowledge, enhancing clinical practice, or informing health policy.

All applications are managed through a formal review process that ensures data are used responsibly, ethically, and in alignment with the registries’ objectives.

Requests for purposes such as quality assurance, audits, surveys, reports, or research projects are considered in accordance with a set of guiding principles. These principles address recognition of data contributors, protection of privacy, maintenance of data quality, appropriate use, continuous improvement, and effective risk management.

When a request is submitted, the review process takes into account a range of factors. These include the nature and scope of the request, the credentials and background of the organisation or individual making it, any required ethics approvals, compliance with privacy legislation, conditions relating to the release of secondary data, and acknowledgement requirements.

Depending on the project, applicants may be asked to provide supporting documentation, such as a research protocol or evidence of ethics approval from an appropriate committee. This oversight helps ensure that all data access aligns with ANZORRG’s commitment to ethical standards and responsible data use.

How to Request Registry Data

Data may be requested by clinicians, researchers, health services, policymakers, or other stakeholders. Requests are considered by the relevant Registry’s governance or data access group before data are released.

To access Registry data, applicants must complete the relevant data request form and submit any required supporting documentation. This may include ethics approval, a project outline/protocol, or data management plan. Find out more on the guidelines and procedures around requesting Registry data below.

Data Request Collaboration Guidelines

ANZORRG provides data to a large number requestors to support audit, service planning, and research projects. To ensure appropriate use, transparency, and to avoid duplication, the following principles apply:

  • Prospective applicants should first review existing data requests to identify potential overlap or opportunities for collaboration, rather than submitting duplicate requests
  • We publish a catalogue of past and current data requests, including summary descriptions, request status, and data groups. This enables potential requestors to search by request number, keyword, requestor, status, category, theme, or data domain.

For more details, see our associated guidelines and policies, or contact the registry.
